The Details

Apply for PFML if you are unemployed

If you are unemployed but had contributed to paid family and medical leave (PFML) at a previous position, you may be eligible for paid leave. To be eligible for benefits, you cannot have been unemployed for more than 26 weeks. Other factors like meeting earnings requirements and providing leave certifications will apply.

Apply for PFML if you recently changed employers

To be eligible for PFML you must meet the earnings requirements. Your eligibility for PFML does not depend on how long you have worked for an individual employer. If you recently changed employers, you may be eligible for leave as long as you still meet the earnings requirements. Your wages from a previous employer may factor into your eligibility as long as both your new employer and previous employer participate in the PFML program.
