SPECIAL NOTICE: MassDOT Welder Certification (Green Card) Issue/Re-Issue Status

The MassDOT Metals Control Unit has a substantial backlog of Welder Certificate (Green Cards) to review due to the impact of COVID. Please note that we will be extending the prior grace period to the six month continuity requirement for any certificates requiring reissue to the period of October 1, 2021 through April 30, 2022. Test certification packets and green card renewals will continue to be processed in the order in which they are received at our office. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

To become a certified MassDOT field welder you must first pass a welder certification test in each welding process and welding position for which you wish to become certified in. This test must be witnessed by a MassDOT representative. You will also need 1 passport sized photo.

How to start How to become a certified field welder

To obtain a MassDOT "Welder Qualification Test Record" and a MassDOT "Welder Certificate" (Green Card), submit all test paperwork and 1 passport sized photo to MassDOT Metals Control.
