What you need
If you receive an environmental violation ticket, you have 21 days to pay it. Fines vary based on the violation.
If you received a ticket for a state park, forest, or recreation infraction, please see pay a state park, forest, or recreation infraction.
There are 2 ways to pay the fine.
How to pay
As an alternative to criminal proceedings, an officer may give you a non-criminal citation with notice to appear before a clerk-magistrate of the District Court or Boston Municipal Court (BMC). To pay the fine in person, you can appear in the court you received the ticket from and pay your ticket.
Pay the fine by mail by sending the correct amount to the address on the written notice.
More info
If you don't pay the fine, the clerk will notify the officer, who will make an application for a criminal complaint. If the court clerk grants the application for a criminal complaint after hearing, a complaint and summons for you to appear in court will be issued. If you don't respond to the summons, the clerk will mail you notice that an arrest warrant will be issued in 21 days.
