Pay unemployment insurance contributions to DUA

Each quarter, all employers subject to Massachusetts unemployment law must pay unemployment contributions to DUA. Once you submit your quarterly employment and wage detail report, UI Online will calculate your balance due.
Contributions to DUA are due every quarter. The due dates are as follows: April 30 for Quarter 1, July 31 for Quarter 2, Oct. 31 for Quarter 3, and Jan. 31 for Quarter 4.

The Details

What you need

You will need the user ID and password you use to log in to UI Online, as well as your bank information (routing number and checking account number) in order to submit a payment.

How to pay

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click Payment information.
    • Click Payment account summary to view your account balance
    • To view details of your outstanding balance, click on Unpaid debt or Interest calculator
  3. Click on Make a payment.
  4. Select Payment method and follow the onscreen prompts.
  5. Print out the payment confirmation number for your records.

Note: UI Online will prompt you to the Make payment process after you submit your employment and wage detail report.

Next steps

  1. Review your payments

    You can review your payments by clicking Search payment under Payment Information. All payments submitted will appear in the search results. If you want to view payment information for a specific statement period, click Received payments on the Payment Account Summary page.

  2. Request a payment plan

    If you have outstanding debt and are unable to pay the full amount due, you can request a payment plan under Payment Information on UI Online. This will allow you to pay the outstanding debt in installments. Keep in mind that interest will continue to accrue.

Payment method options

DUA accepts the following payment methods:

  • Paper check – Please print out the online voucher and send it to the address on the voucher
  • ACH debit – You need to enter your routing number and checking account number
  • ACH credit – You need to register by using the Registration to pay DUA taxes via ACH credit form

Deferral option

If you are eligible for the deferral option, the Deferral page will appear during the Make payment process on UI Online. Check the box on the screen if you wish to use a deferral. Please note that:

  • The deferral option is available in the month of April for Quarter 1 filing or July for Quarter 2 filing
  • All deferrals are due by the Oct. 31 Quarter 3 due date
  • The deferral option is available only to employers, and is not available for Third Party Administrators (TPAs)

Interest charges

We encourage you to file the employment and wage detail report and pay contributions in full by the quarter due dates below to avoid interest and penalties.

Quarter 2 July 31
Quarter 3 Oct. 31
Quarter 4 Jan. 31

Interest will accrue on any unpaid principal balance at the rate of 12% per year from the quarter due date until fully paid.
