If a vehicle has been sold by a dealership with a Certificate of Origin and the sale was cancelled, a withdrawal of title may be applied for.
You must apply within 10 days from the date of title application.

What you need   for Request to withdraw a vehicle title for a new vehicle

A title is eligible for withdrawal provided that the vehicle was sold with a Certificate of Origin, the sale was cancelled, the purchaser/lessee never took actual delivery of the vehicle, the vehicle never left the dealership’s lot, and the Massachusetts title has not been issued.

Mail the Application for Withdrawal of Title, proof of registration cancellation or transfer, and lien release (if applicable) to:

If the withdrawal is approved, the Certificate of Origin will be mailed back to the requesting dealership within 7 to 10 business days.

If the dealership has identified that a title should be withdrawn but not all information (example: lien release) will be available within 10 days:

  • For EVR Participants:  Service Provider must be notified who will request a hold through MA RMV Business Support.
  • For Out of State Dealerships:  Contact the Title Division at 857-368-8050.
