What to Know
An outdoor hydronic heater (wood-fired boiler) may be sold and installed in Massachusetts only if:
- The unit meets 2015 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) new source performance standard (NSPS) certification requirements, and
- The manufacturer has filed a compliance certification with MassDEP.

A manufacturer may certify at any point after a model has been tested by an approved lab, reviewed by EPA’s Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) group, and is in compliance with the applicable state requirements

Prepare a Return to Compliance Plan, if Necessary
Complete and submit this form if you are unable to comply with a particular requirement at the time you certify.
