Key Dates for the Promotional Exams

Application Opening: August 25, 2020
Application Deadline: September 15, 2020

Notice to Appear for Exam: November 6, 2020
Examination Date: November 21, 2020 (Saturday)
Education & Experience (E&E) Application Deadline: November 28, 2020
Score Release Date: January 19, 2021
Education & Experience (E&E) Last Day to Appeal: February 5, 2021
Eligible List Establishment Date: March 1, 2021

Examination Fee: $250
Location: Various sites across the state
Eligibility: This is a departmental promotional exam. Please refer to the exam poster/application for specific information.

  3. Registrations for 2020 Fire Lieutenant and Captain Exams have been closed on September 15, 2020.
  4. Education & Experience (E&E) Application Deadline: November 28, 2020

    Promotional exam candidates are required to file their E&E Claims; It is a mandatory exam component and will result in a failing score if the claim is not completed.  Supporting documentation will be accepted up to 7 calendar days following the examination date by email: civilservice@mass.gov
  5. Scores: January 19, 2021

    Exam scores have been emailed.
     
  6. Education & Experience (E&E) Last Day to Appeal: February 5, 2021

    Before filing an appeal regarding your E&E claim, please ensure that your submitted documentation supports the information referenced on your E&E claim.
  7. Eligible List Establishment Date: March 1, 2021

    The Eligible list has been established. please check your rank.

Definitions

1YP = 1 year of eligibility required in the eligible title
3YP = 3 years of eligibility required in the eligible title

Examination titles followed by:

(1YP) and (3YP): The examination weights are 80% written examination; 20% Education & Experience.

(YP-6040): The examination weights are 60% written examination; 40% Education & Experience.

(YP-442): The examination weights are: 40% written examination; 40% Assessment Center; 20% Education & Experience.

(YP-552520): The examination weights are: 55% written examination; 25% Assessment Center; 20% Education & Experience.
