Key Dates for the Promotional Examinations

Application Opening: February 23, 2021
Application Deadline: March16, 2021
Notices to Appear for Examinations: April 28, 2021
Examination Date: May 12, 2021 (Wednesday)
Education & Experience (E&E) Application Deadline: May 19, 2021
Score Release Date: June 25, 2021
Education & Experience (E&E) Last Day to Appeal: July 12, 2021
Eligible List Establishment Date: July 15, 2021

Written Examination Fee: $250
Location: Various Sites across the state
Eligibility: This is a departmental promotional examination. Please refer to the examination poster/application for specific information.

  3. Notice to Appear for Examination: April 28, 2021

    Two weeks before the examination date you will receive a notice to appear by e-mail. The notice will tell you the location and the time to appear for your examination. Please check your junk or spam mail folder for the e-mail before contacting this office.
  4. Education & Experience (E&E) Application Deadline: May 19, 2021

    Promotional examination candidates are required to file their E&E Claims; It is a mandatory exam component and will result in a failing score if the claim is not completed.  Supporting documentation will be accepted up to 7 calendar days following the examination date by email: civilservice@mass.gov

  5. Scores: June 25, 2021

    Your examination result has been emailed.

  6. Education & Experience (E&E) Last Day to Appeal: July 12, 2021

    Before filing an appeal regarding your E&E claim, please ensure that your submitted documentation supports the information referenced on your E&E claim.

  7. Eligible List Establishment Date: July 15, 2021

    The Eligible List has been established.

1YP: 1 Year Prior Experience, Examination Weights: 80% Written Examination, 20% Education & Experience

     Eligible Titles for department: Fire Captain

     Eligible Titles for department: Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain

Participating Department: Bourne, Milton, West Springfield
