Aja Dawn Robinson

Aja Dawn Robinson was 23 years old when she lost her life. Aja was the daughter of Lisa Robinson and Roland Ellies. She had 1 biological sister and 2 biological brothers, but her adoptive siblings were many, with 1 brother and 5 sisters who would join the family through love.

Aja was a funny, vivacious, beautiful young woman with an incredible spirit and heart. She not only made everyone around her smile and laugh, but she had a special way of making every person she met feel like they were her favorite person in the world.  She adored cats and had many throughout her life. Ever since childhood, she would frequently show up at home with a cat or kitten, saying “it followed me home.” Her empathy was not limited to cats; she would often bring friends or neighbors to the house if she felt they were hungry or needed help or for her mother to step in for them. Some left after a meal, some remained new members of the family.

A very hard worker who just wanted to make something out of her life, Aja was working two jobs at the time of her death. Very humble and grateful for the small things in life, Aja’s favorite place to go was shopping with her mom at the thrift shop. She had slowly been building a collection of Asian themed housewares in the months preceding her death, as she was getting ready to move into her first apartment. Her thoughtfulness would sometimes overwhelm her mom. One day, she surprised her mother with a brand new sofa and explained to her “You’ve never had anything brand new in your life. I wanted to give you your first of many.”

That kind of love, thoughtfulness and compassion is exactly what Aja Dawn embodied. And all of us miss her and carry her with us every day.
