In-depth cost analysis and independent engineering analysis
As a result of the federal government rescinding the Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant program funds, MassDOT is in the process of engaging outside experts to examine how to deliver the most transportation benefits with the available resources. MassDOT remains committed to achieving the goals of the Allston Multimodal Transportation Project. Independent review results are expected in 2026.
Federal Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhood grant update
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has notified MassDOT that the unobligated balance of its awarded Neighborhood Access and Equity Program grant funding has been rescinded by the federal government. Of the original $335 million award, $8 million had been obligated to the project, and the remaining $327 million has been rescinded.

Notice of project change
MassDOT filed a Notice of Project Change (NPC) with the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) Office on August 1, 2022. The purpose of the NPC is to update the status of the Project in the state environmental review process to align with the advancements made to the project since publication of the 2017 Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The NPC provides a preliminary analysis of environmental effects associated with the Throat Area options. It also responds to the Secretary's Certificate and public comments received on the 2017 Draft EIR.

Preservation projects
I-90 Viaduct Bridge preservation project
The I-90 Viaduct Bridge is currently under construction to address elements that require immediate attention to keep the structure operational and avoid load restrictions. These repairs will extend the service life of the Viaduct until it can be replaced.
Cambridge Street Bridge preservation project
The Cambridge Street Bridge preservation project is scheduled to begin Summer 2025.
