I did not apply for MassHealth. Why do I now have MassHealth coverage?
When you become eligible for SSI as a Massachusetts resident, you automatically become a MassHealth member. This gives you access to free health coverage through MassHealth.
What is MassHealth?
MassHealth provides health benefits to qualifying children, caregivers, seniors, and people with disabilities living in Massachusetts. MassHealth also provides help paying for many medical services. For more information, go to www.mass.gov/MassHealth.
How do I know if I have MassHealth coverage?
MassHealth will automatically enroll you once you are approved for SSI. Make sure to look for your MassHealth ID card in the mail. Your MassHealth ID card should arrive soon after you are approved for SSI benefits.

I need to update my address or other contact information for my MassHealth profile. Who should I contact?
If you automatically have MassHealth because you receive SSI and you want to update your contact information, please call the Social Security Administration. Reporting changes through SSA will automatically update your MassHealth profile.

What happens if I had MassHealth because of my SSI benefit, then my SSI closes?
If you stop receiving your SSI, then your MassHealth coverage may change. If your MassHealth coverage changes, you will get a notice in the mail with more information.
