Bowker Overpass construction staging and timeline

Expected Construction Staging and Timeline for the Bowker Overpass replacement and widening over I-90/MBTA/Ipswich Street. All closure details and timelines are subject to change.

Expected timeline

Stage 1A: September 2025 – June 2026
 

Stage 1B: June 2026 – Mid-December 2026
 

Please note: Beginning August 17, 2026, the left northbound lane on Bowker Overpass will close through December 2026.

Stage 2A: Mid-December 2026 – Spring 2027

Please note: the left northbound lane on Bowker Overpass will be closed for only part of Phase 2A, through December 2026.

Lanes on I-90 are expected to be restored for travel at 5:00 a.m. and close at approximately 10:00 p.m. 
 

Stage 2B: Spring 2027 – Fall 2027
 

Stage 3A: Fall 2027 – Spring 2028

Lanes on I-90 are expected to be restored for travel at 5:00 a.m. and close at approximately 10:00 p.m.
 

Stage 3B: Spring 2028 – Fall 2028

Lanes on I-90 are expected to be restored for travel at 5:00 a.m. and close at approximately 10:00 p.m. 
 

Stage 4: January 2029 – December 2029 – final completion
