As of September 2025, Stage 1 construction work is beginning.
Construction look-ahead September 7 – September 19, 2025
Travel impacts
Over the next two weeks, temporary vehicle and pedestrian controls will be used in the areas listed below.
- Beginning the week of September 21, a fixed workzone will be installed in the I-90 Westbound slow lane. I-90 Westbound will be reduced to three travel lanes during the work.
- Temporary traffic control previously installed along Ipswich Street beneath the Bowker Overpass will continue. This traffic control setup will not impact vehicular travel lanes, which will remain open throughout construction. The pedestrian route will remain open and accessible.
- Temporary traffic control previously installed along Charlesgate West On-Ramp to Bowker Overpass. This traffic control setup will not impact vehicular travel lanes, which will remain open throughout construction. The pedestrian route will remain open and accessible.
Operations
Bowker Overpass Over MBTA, Ipswich Stret, and I-90
- Installing a fixed workzone in the I-90 Westbound slow lane
- Preparing the site for upcoming construction
- Demolishing certain concrete structures
- Installing temporary excavation supports
- Excavating the site
Work hours
- Daytime Hours: Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as required
- Nighttime Hours: Sunday through Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. as required
Travel tips
Please take care to pay attention to all signage as it is posted. Police details, changes in lane markings, temporary controls such as barriers and traffic cones, signage, and other tools may be used throughout the project to control traffic and create safe work zones within the project limits.
