Description

Browning Pond is 112-acre great pond and impoundment of the Sevenmile River located off of Browning Pond Rd. in Oakham and Spencer. Browning Pond has an average depth of 15 feet, a maximum depth of 46 feet and the pond bottom is predominately rock and rubble. Aquatic vegetation is abundant in the shallow northern end but really nowhere else. A few private homes lie on the southeast shore while a summer camp takes up rest of the shoreline leaving it mostly undeveloped.

Recreational access

A dirt boat ramp suitable for light trailered craft and cartop boats is located on Browning Pond Rd (get directions). Parking is limited to roadside pull-offs with space for roughly 3 cars. The shoreline is only accessible along Browning Pond Road adjacent to the ramp. Please contact the town of Spencer for additional information and/or restrictions pertaining to public access of Browning Pond.

Fishing

Steep drop-offs on the western side of Browning Pond are often targeted by trout anglers in spring. Alternatively the eastern and northern shores are favored by bass anglers in late spring and summer due to their shallower depths and the presence of aquatic vegetation. Browning Pond has produced largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and sunfish that meet minimum size for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
