Change in Meals Tax Account Type

There is a change to the meals tax account type in MassTaxConnect that will be in place starting July 1, 2024. The current Meals Tax (MLS) account type will be replaced by the Meals, Food & Beverage (MFB) account type for taxpayers reporting and remitting sales tax on meals starting with the July 2024 filing period. Businesses with multiple locations will have one MFB account and will file a single return that includes all locations starting with the July 2024 period. Communications are being sent to affected taxpayers. Information about how this will impact taxpayers will be available on the DOR website.

Sales Tax Holiday Dates Have Been Set

The sales tax holiday will take place on August 10 and August 11 this year. An exemption from sales tax applies for those two days to any retail purchase of $2,500 or less in Massachusetts, with some exceptions. Find out what is and isn’t covered by the sales tax holiday by reviewing the FAQs.
