Ensuring your child is in a correctly installed car seat that is appropriate for their size is the best way to ensure their safety when your family is on the road. But many parents and caregivers struggle to select the most appropriate seat for the child or to properly install it. There is help out there for parents who need a hand.
Car seat inspection sites are organizations with at least one Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician on staff where you can go to ensure your child’s seat has been installed correctly. CPS Technicians are certified via training and continuing education on the proper use and installation of car seats and booster seats. They will also check for recalls on car seats. Their services are free of charge.
Use the map and listings on this page to locate CPS inspection sites in Massachusetts, including those with technicians who speak Spanish and other languages and those who are certified to help children with special healthcare needs. The list and map are updated regularly by the Office of Grants and Research. Check with the site to confirm that the service is currently available and whether there are residency or other requirements.
In addition, the Massachusetts State Police perform seat checks and installations statewide. Call 774-462-3766 to schedule an appointment.
Assistance is also offered remotely by Baystate Health, which serves as the Child Passenger Safety Program - Statewide Training Provider. If you would like virtual assistance with your child’s car seat, please contact Mandi.Summers@baystatehealth.org.
