GIS Day 2025

Gov. Healey proclaimed November 19, 2025, as GIS Day!

GIS Day celebrates the power of geospatial technology and is dedicated to sharing, teaching, and inspiring others with GIS (geographic information systems). The celebration has occurred for more than 25 years and has many different events.

How MassGIS Celebrated

UMass Boston

MassGIS Deputy Director Tom Mueller attended GIS Day at UMass Boston sponsored by the Northeast Geographic Information Society (NEGIS) and hosted by the School for the Environment.

There were four presentations:

  1. Dr. John Steinberg of the Fiske Center for Archeological Research at UMass Boston:  “Indigenous / Afro-American Burial Site on Long Island, NY”
  2. Tom Mueller, Deputy Director of MassGIS: “MassGIS: Framework to MassMapper”
  3. Brian Baldwin of Esri: “Latest Developments in GeoAI and AI assistants to support geospatial teaching and research in the ESRI Ecosystem”
  4. Kevin Suchecki, NEGIS Scholarship Winner: “My Experience as an ESRI Intern”
