The Habeas Project initiative assists eligible detained immigrants in filing a habeas claim by pairing immigration lawyers with volunteer lawyers. This program assists detained immigrants who are Massachusetts residents and are detained in Massachusetts (MA), New Hampshire (NH), Vermont (VT), Rhode Island (RI) or Maine (ME).
Services provided
- Provides free federal court representation for detained immigrants
- Assists detained immigrants with the process of filing a habeas petition
Are you eligible?
Eligibility Criteria:
- Individual is detained in New England (Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut); and
- Individual is a Massachusetts (MA) resident.
