Description
Higgins Pond is a 25-acre kettle hole and Great Pond with an average depth of 29 feet and a maximum depth of 66 feet. The pond bottom is comprised of sand and gravel, the waters are typically transparent to 26 feet, and aquatic vegetation is scarce. The entire shoreline falls within Nickerson State Park and is forested with the exception of a few swimming beaches.
Recreational access
The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages an unimproved cartop launch at the end of a steep access road off of Higgins Pond Road on the northern shore (get directions). The access road is best suited to 4x4 vehicles, and only electric motors are allowed on Higgins Pond. The entire shoreline is open to fishing and the pond is easily waded. A parking fee will apply when entering the park. Please contact the DCR offices of Nickerson State Park for additional information, fee structure, and/or restrictions pertaining to public access of Higgins Pond.
Parking at the end of the dirt access road off of Higgins Pond Road. a 4x4 truck will better assure that you actually reach this location.

Fish populations
The following fish species were found during MassWildlife surveys:
- largemouth bass
- smallmouth bass
- chain pickerel
- yellow perch
- brown bullhead
- pumpkinseed
- rainbow smelt
- banded killifish
Higgins Pond is stocked each spring with trout.
Fishing
Higgins Pond is a popular trout fishing destination during spring and summer. Look for trout between 22 and 45 feet once the waters warm. Higgins Pond has produced largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, brook trout, rainbow trout and tiger trout that meet the minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
