Description
Holland pond (also called Lake Siog) is a 70-acre great pond and impoundment of the Quinebaug River located off Brimfield Rd. in Holland. Holland Pond has an average depth of 10 feet and maximum depth of 24 feet and its waters are typically transparent to 4 to 5 feet. The pond bottom consists of patches of mud and rocks and aquatic vegetation is generally restricted to shorelines with the exception of the northern lobe which is shallower and contains vegetation throughout. The shores of Holland Pond are almost completely protected open space and are thus relatively free from residential dwellings. Lake Siog Park which is managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers is located on the southern shore and offers a swimming beach and picnic sites.
Recreational access
The Army Corps of Engineers manages a gravel boat ramp suitable for trailered craft and adjacent parking area off of Pond Bridge Road on the northern shore (get directions). Cartop boats may also be launched from the shores of Lake Siog Park off of Dug Hill Road on the southern shore (get directions) or from a gravel landing near the pond outlet off Pond Bridge Road (get directions). Passage into the Quinebaug River from Holland Pond is permitted by a navigable culvert. The shoreline is accessible along Pond Bridge Road and from the Holland Pond Recreation area along the southern shore. Please contact the New England District of the Army Corps for additional information, fee structure and/or restrictions pertaining to public access of Holland Pond.
