Overview

Massachusetts cities and towns are divided into five geographic regions, which are each represented by a Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council. These regions are Central, Northeast, Southeast, Western and Metro Boston. The Metro Boston Region is federally designated under the Urban Area Security Initiative and is commonly referred to as UASI.  Each year, the Councils propose projects in individual communities or across their region that are then incorporated into OGR’s annual funding application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As the State Administrative Agency (SAA) for federal homeland security funding awarded to Massachusetts, OGR administers these federal funds to each of the Councils to support their region’s ability to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from acts of terror and other disasters.
