Information for Insurance Companies

Insurance companies may request copies of Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) reports or a Medical Examiner Statement ruling out foul play in the circumstances of the decedent’s death.

What you need

If you are authorized, you may be able to receive a copy of the report by following the steps below. As an insurance company, you may request OCME reports by submitting an online request form with the signed authorization from the legal next of kin.

Important Notes

  • Not every case includes an autopsy or toxicology testing, so reports may not always be available.
  • Issuance of a Medical Examiner Statement is at the discretion of the medical examiner.
