Governing Authority

Who we serve

We work with families and funeral homes to provide information to those affected by sudden or traumatic loss. We also provide forensic services to assist law enforcement and public health.

Information to Get You Started

Here is what families, funeral directors, law enforcement, and hospital, nursing, and state facility staff should know when the Office of the Chief Medical examiner accepts jurisdiction over a death.

Our medical examiners are assigned to cases to investigate cause and manner of death. In most cases, the deceased is transported to our office for examination. Whether you are a family member of the deceased, a funeral director acting on behalf of the family, a law enforcement member investigating the death, or hospital staff who treated the deceased, the following information will tell you what to expect.
