Insurance Examinations and Continuing Education

The Massachusetts Division of Insurance (DOI) has partnered with Pearson to administer insurance licensing examinations and continuing education (CE) services for Massachusetts insurance producers.

Visit the Pearson Massachusetts Insurance page to:

  • Schedule or reschedule an insurance licensing examination
  • Find a Pearson test center
  • Access the Candidate Handbook and exam content outlines

Please Note: Beginning July 22, all Massachusetts insurance licensing examinations are administered by Pearson at authorized Pearson test centers. Exams must be taken in person. Remote testing is not available.

Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser (MVDA): Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser (MVDA) candidates must first obtain an examination voucher from the Massachusetts Division of Insurance before registering with Pearson. To request an exam voucher, email MVDA.mailbox@mass.gov. A new voucher is required for each examination attempt.

Continuing Education

Massachusetts resident producers must complete continuing education (CE) to maintain an active license. Pearson Professional Assessments manages continuing education services for Massachusetts. Find Approved Courses

General CE requirements include:

  • First renewal: 60 CE credits, including 3 credits in Ethics
  • Each subsequent three-year renewal: 45 CE credits, including 3 credits in Ethics

Penalty Fee Information

Failure to complete the required continuing education (CE) before your license renewal may result in the non-renewal of your license and may also subject you to monetary penalties for noncompliance with the Commonwealth's continuing education requirements. Completing your CE requirements on time helps avoid delays, penalties, and interruptions to your license.
