Learn about the Virtual Gateway

The Virtual Gateway aims to deliver services in new, better, and more innovative ways to the Commonwealth's citizens.

The Virtual Gateway consolidates information and online services in a single online site, making it easier to connect the public, clients, providers, and agency staff to critical health and human services programs and information.

The Virtual Gateway serves as a single access point for a variety of programs including:

  • Health care services
  • Food assistance
  • Veterans’ services
  • Disability and community services programs

The Virtual Gateway also offers providers, organizations, and government agencies better management and reporting tools. This lets them deliver services to their clients quickly and effectively.

Today, about 1 million individuals from more than 18,000 organizations use the Virtual Gateway to conduct business with agencies within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS).

Examples of the many activities that Virtual Gateway users can perform include:

  • Manage Service Programs: Manage EOHHS services for children, seniors, veterans, homeless, and disabled persons
  • Submit Bills and Service Records: Complete and submit service delivery reports and invoices through a single front door to EOHHS agencies

The Virtual Gateway has:

  • Reduced the amount of time it takes to apply for services and learn if you're eligible
  • Expedited half a million applications for services from individuals and families
  • Improved case management and service delivery for some of our most vulnerable citizens
  • Reduced the amount of time it takes EOHHS to pay contracted service providers

Virtual Gateway services

Virtual Gateway plays a major role supporting many of EOHHS’ strategic initiatives, which include services for providers and for consumers.

Services for providers

  • The Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI/CANS) allows MassHealth providers who have contracted for a service to use medical necessity criteria established by MassHealth to evaluate whether a member has a medical need for a service.
  • The Home and Community Services Information System (HCSIS) is a web-based service that allows service providers and the department to file clinical information and reports on incidents, medication occurrences, restraints, and investigations.
  • Enterprise Invoice/Service Management (EIM/ESM) is an Internet billing and reporting service. It replaces paper-based invoicing and streamlines billing for providers and agencies. In addition, for the Department of Public Health and its providers, EIM/ESM is a single, agency-wide point of client service management.
  • Provider Data Management is a web-based service that gives Purchase of Service (POS) providers and EOHHS agencies a single place to view and edit information commonly requested by Health and Human Services agencies.
  • The Medicaid Provider portal (MMIS) offers instructions on how to register as a provider using the Provider Online Service Center (POSC), submit claims, check member eligibility, review regulations and service codes, view provider payment rates, get a prior authorization, and more.
  • The Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS) is a web-based immunization registry.
  • EOHHS staff and providers use the i-FamilyNet service to collaborate in treatment planning and referrals for certain children served by EOHHS including those that are part of the Department of Children and Families' (DCF) Family Networks.
  • The Refugee and Immigrant Support Information System (RISIS) is among the services the Office for Refugees and Immigrants supports to meet cultural and linguistic needs of refugees and immigrants through a network of service providers in Massachusetts.
  • The My Account Page (MAP) lets authorized provider organizations view information about health assistance benefits the household currently receives. Head of household must give permission.

Services for consumers

  • The Consumer Information Page has resources to assist the general public.
  • The My Account Page (MAP) can help you manage your MassHealth, Commonwealth Care, Health Safety Net, Children's Medical Security Plan and Healthy Start benefits. To use My Account Page, you must be the head of the household (person who signed the original application for benefits), be receiving benefits, and create and register for a Virtual Gateway Account.
