Description
Rochester Pond is a 47-acre impoundment of the Sippican River located off of Mary's Pond Road in Rochester. The shores of the pond are completely forested and aquatic vegetation can become thick in places as the summer progresses. Rochester Pond is often passed by in favor of Mary's Pond which is right up the road.
Recreational access
the town of Rochester owns and manages The Leonards Pond Recreation Area which features an unimproved dirt launch suitable for cartop boats and a 12 car gravel parking area off of Mary's Pond Road on the eastern shore of the pond. While trails in the recreation area run adjacent to shore, the eastern basin where the recreation area sits is quite shallow and becomes thick with vegetation. As such, Leonards pond is best accessed via watercraft; no gas motors are allowed. Please contact the town of Rochester for additional information and/or restrictions pertaining to public access of Leonards Pond.

Fishing
By mid summer, a ring of aquatic vegetation hugs the shore here and is excellent habitat to pull a lure through. One must paddle through the shallow eastern basin to get to more open water first, but its worth it given the history of trophy fish here, particularly largemouth bass. Rochester Pond has produced largemouth bass, chain pickerel, bullhead, black crappie and sunfish that meet the minimum size for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
