Description

Long Pond is a 44-acre great pond located in the headwaters of Content Brook off of Whipple Road in the southeastern portion of Tewksbury. Long Pond has an average depth of 4 feet, a maximum depth of 8 feet, an aquatic vegetation is common. The waters tend to be tea stained which limit visibility and the pond is surrounded by wetlands which limit shoreline development and give it a secluded feel.

Recreational access

The town of Tewksbury manages Mahoney Park which features a gravel boat ramp suitable for tight trailered craft and a 20 car parking lot off of Whipple Rod on the north east corner of the pond (get directions). Shore fishing here is possible from the grassy shores in the park and there are picnic tables and benches. A second unimproved dirt cartop boat launch is located on town land off of Pond Street on the southern tip of the pond. Parking is possible for about 3 cars along Pond Road at a small gravel pull-off; shore fishing is limited here to areas around the launch (get directions).
