Lower Spectacle Pond has an average depth of 5 feet, a maximum depth of 15 feet, and the bottom is composed of muck and clay. The waters are tannic, with brown coloration which limits transparency to about 4 feet. The entire shoreline falls within Otis State Forest and is undeveloped.

Fishing
Lower Spectacle Pond is a beautiful and secluded pond to spend an afternoon fishing, paddling or hiking. Fishing pressure is light throughout the year here, but anglers who do visit will find chain pickerel with smaller numbers of largemouth bass. In general though, this pond will be enjoyed more for its scenery and solitude than its fishing opportunities.
