Description
Mascuppic Lake is 217-acres in size and located just 1.5 miles east of the center of Tyngsborough. Mascuppic Lake has an average depth of 12 feet, a maximum depth of 31 feet, and water typically transparent to 10 feet. Emergent aquatic vegetation is relatively scarce given the transparency and fertility of the water, although there are some heavy patches in the northeast and southwest coves. The waterfront is developed extensively, and the lake sustains heavy recreational usage during the summer months.
Recreational access
MassWildlife manages a paved boat ramp suitable for trailered craft off of Willowdale Ave. on the far eastern corner of the lake (get directions). Parking is available for 10 trailers and shoreline access is limited to areas adjacent to the ramp. A second cartop and shore access site is available at the Tyngsborough Town beach off of Mascuppic Trail on the northwestern shore (get directions). A town placard is required to park, and fishing from the beach is restricted during the swim season. The following fish species were found during MassWildlife surveys:
- largemouth bass
- chain pickerel
- yellow perch
- white perch
- brown bullhead
- yellow bullhead
- bluegill
- pumpkinseed
- black crappie
- golden shiner
- American eel
Fishing
Mascuppic Lake is a popular destination for recreational boaters during the summer months. Largemouth bass are probably the most popular game fish here with increasing numbers of larger fish reported. Ice fishing is also very popular. Mascuppic Lake has produced largemouth bass, carp, and tiger musky that meet the minimum requirements for the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
