Funding

Massachusetts will receive approximately $63 million in NEVI federal funds over five years, from FFY22-FFY26, to deploy Direct-Current Fast Charging (DCFC) stations along alternative fuel corridors as designated by the Federal Highway Administration.

The use of NEVI program funds ensures a financially sustainable approach towards public investment in EV charging, as stated in the MassDOT NEVI Plan.

One of the four goals is for charging stations to become financially self-sustaining as soon as feasible after the initial investment of NEVI program funds and matching funding sources.

MassDOT recognizes that not all sites on the AFC network will be profitable, especially in the early years when demand is still ramping up. The anticipated contracting approach will include coverage for segments with higher and lower demand levels and potential costs, spreading potential risk and supporting an overall positive financial return for the selected private partner(s).
