MassDOT Public Participation Plan

MassDOT's Public Participation Plan (PPP) encourages engagement with diverse groups who use, or are impacted by, MassDOT’s programs, projects, services, and activities.

Getting involved is a great way to make sure our transportation efforts serve you and your community. The plan explains how the public can participate, and how to give feedback on agency activities at different project stages.

Some of the ways you can get involved:

• Join stakeholder meetings and workshops: Check page 14 for details on how these groups aid project development.
• Share your ideas at public meetings: Participate by finding events on the MassDOT Event Calendar.
• Sign-up for email updates from MassDOT: You can select from a list of several topics by entering your email on our subscriber page.
• Take part in the public comment process: Check page 21 of the PPP for details on typical comment period lengths and formats.

The PPP also helps staff ensure public outreach is accessible to everyone; and informs staff and partners about the policies, expectations, and strategies for engagement with the public throughout the project lifecycle. 

Contents of the Plan

• Chapter 1: An introduction to MassDOT and MassDOT’s public participation goals and guiding principles.
• Chapter 2: Summarizes relevant laws and regulations with which the Plan is intended to comply.
• Chapter 3: Describes MassDOT’s process and primary methods for public participation.
• Chapter 4: Describes opportunities for public participation during the project lifecycle, as described in the MassDOT Project Development and Design Guide.
