What are the username and password requirements for MassTaxConnect?

Your username can be 3 to 60 characters in length and cannot have any spaces. You may also use your email address, provided it is 60 or less characters in length. Once a username is created it cannot be changed. 

For security reasons, MassTaxConnect passwords are case-sensitive. Passwords must be at least 8 characters in length, you cannot reuse the last 12 passwords, and must contain at least:

  • 1 uppercase letter (i.e., A-Z)
  • 1 lowercase letter (i.e., a-z)
  • 1 number (i.e., 0-9)
  • 1 special character.

How do I add an additional account type?

To add an account type:

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the More… tab.  
  • Select the Add an Account, New Location or New License hyperlink under the Access section. 

 

All tax types available will be listed.

How do I create an online account?

If you have previously filed a tax return with DOR and do not have an online account, you can create one by selecting Sign Upon MassTaxConnect. You must provide 1 of the following:

  • Amount due from 1 of your last 3 returns.
  • Amount to be refunded from 1 of your last 3 returns.
  • Letter ID from a letter that has been mailed from DOR, providing instructions on how to register.

You can also provide one of the following:

  • Letter ID from Notice of Assessment 
  • Statement of Account and
  • Final Notice.

If you have not previously filed a tax return with DOR, you will not be able to register for Personal Income Tax. You can only register for:

  • Personal Use Tax 
  • Excise Taxes and/or
  • Room Occupancy Tax.

If you want to create this type of an online account,:

  • Go to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select Sign Up
  • Select Register an Individual. 
  • Fill in the registration information.

How do I add a DBA?

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the More… tab. 
  • Select the Names and Addresseshyperlink.  
  • Locate the account panel that you want to add a DBA and select the Add hyperlink. 
  • Enter your DBA name. 
  • Select the Next button.  
  • Select the Submit button.

How do I edit a DBA?

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the More… tab. 
  • Select the Names and Addresseshyperlink. 
  • Select the hyperlink of the DBA that you want to edit. 
  • Select the Change this name hyperlink. 
  • Enter your new DBA Name. 
  • Select the Next button.  
  • Select the Submit button.

How do I add a mailing address?

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the More…tab. 
  • Select the Names and Addresseshyperlink. 
  • Select the Addresses tab. 
  • Select the Add hyperlink for the mailing address for the account that you want to add. 
    • A pop-up window will display a list of possible addresses that match the information entered.
  • Select the Select hyperlink for the correct address.
  • Once verified, select the Next button.
  • Select the Save button.

How do I edit my address?

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the More… tab.  
  • Select the Names and Addresses tab. 
  • Select the Addresses tab.  
  • Select the addresshyperlink for the address you are updating. 
  • Select the Change this address hyperlink. 
  • Enter in the new address. 
  • Select the Verify Address hyperlink. 
    • A pop-up window will display a list of possible addresses that match the information entered. 
  • Select the Select hyperlink for the correct address. 
  • Once verified, select the Next button. 
  • Select the Save button. 

Please note that if the Change this address hyperlink is unavailable, you cannot:

  • Edit the address based on your Access Type or
  • Edit the address on MassTaxConnect due to the Address Type.

For example, Location Address cannot be edited. The tax account associated with the location must be:

  • Ceased and a new location added with the proper address.

Can I change my PIN?

No. You cannot change your PIN.

Will I be able to print my PIN when I register?

Yes. You can print any screen during registration, including:

  • The screen where you enter your PIN, or
  • The Confirmation page, which displays your PIN at the end of your registration.

What happens if I lose or don’t remember my security questions?

You will need to contact DOR:

A representative will ask some questions regarding your account before providing you with a temporary password.

Once you are logged in to MassTaxConnect:

  • Go to Manage My Profilein the top right-hand corner.   
  • Select the Update Your Secret Question in the Security panel.
