Mobile Messaging Service for Partner Notification

Partner notification is part of a comprehensive public health strategy to help reduce transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted infections. Partner notification prompts sexual and/or drug using partners to seek screening and treatment, if necessary, which improves clinical outcomes for sexually transmitted infections.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is partnering with SXT Health CIC to provide SXT Sexual Health Services, a mobile messaging service for partner notification. SXT allows health care providers to offer clients a new way to notify partners and to help partners to schedule appointments for testing and treatment. SXT uses text messaging and/or email to securely and confidentially notify partners and to connect them with local services for testing, treatment, and care. SXT services can increase the number of partners successfully notified and connected to testing and treatment and do so efficiently.

SXT services complement partner services provided by the DPH through our Partner Services Program. When people in Massachusetts are diagnosed with HIV infection or syphilis infection, DPH works with health care providers to contact each individual and offer them information about their infection, and to identify and contact their sexual and/or drug sharing partners to connect them with testing, treatment, and other resources.

DPH is making SXT services available to organizations under contract with BIDLS for provision of HIV, HCV, STI, and LTBI testing/linkage to treatment services. Information about participation in SXT through DPH is available below.
