Description

Nabnasset Pond is a 142-acre great pond and impoundment of Blue Brook located south of Rt. 40 in Westford. Nabnasset Pondhas an average depth of14 feet, a maximum depth of 26 feet, and water transparency is excellent at 14 feet. Aquatic vegetation, both submerged and emergent, is abundant and common throughout the pond. There is a large marsh surrounding the western inlet and the shoreline is heavily developed with year-round homes and summer cottages.

Recreational access

The town of Westford manages a beach at Ronan McEelligott Park located off of Williams Ave. on the southeastern corner of the pond (get directions). Canoes and car top boats can be carried in and launched here although a parking fee may apply during the swimming season. Please contact the town of Westford for additional information, fee schedules, and/or restrictions pertaining to public access of Nabnasset Pond.

Fish populations

The following fish species were found during MassWildlife surveys:

  • largemouth bass
  • chain pickerel
  • black crappie
  • brown bullhead
  • yellow Bullhead
  • yellow perch
  • bluegill
  • pumpkinseed
  • white sucker
  • golden shiner

Fishing

Access here is limited which likely reduces fishing pressure but makes getting out on the water more difficult. Try fishing the western marshy section for pickerel, the eastern weed beds for largemouth bass, or almost anywhere for perch. Nabnasset Pond has produced largemouth bass that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
