The Office of Grants and Research intends to award $135,000 in federal FY 2025 Support for Adam Walsh Act (AWA) Implementation Grant Program funds to the Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB).
The Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) Support for AWA Implementation Grant Program assists jurisdictions with developing and/or enhancing programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). SORNA (34 U.S.C. § 20901 et seq.) was enacted to protect the public by establishing a comprehensive national system of standards for the registration and notification of convicted sex offenders.
Funds from this grant will be used by SORB for the SORB Public Website Modernization Project to redesign and modernize its 10-year-old public website that allows the community to access important level 2 sex offender information for those classified after July 12, 2013, and level 3 sex offender information, which serves as a valuable public safety resource.
These funds will bring the jurisdiction closer to implementing SORNA by addressing deficiencies identified in SMART’s most recent SORNA substantial implementation review for the jurisdiction.
This project will benefit parents, care takers, community-based organizations and members of the public interested in obtaining information, as it will make the website more user friendly and reliable.
The anticipated project period for this award is September 2026 through December 31, 2027.
