Reciprocal sponsor verifications

Massachusetts reciprocates sponsorship from Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. If you’re a contractor whose offices are located in one of these states, you may also receive sponsor verification. Please see the following requirements for other sponsorships:

  • Out-of-state union:
    • A letter of good standing from your local area
    • A letter stating the union has an apprentice program registered within their state. The Union must also have reciprocity with Massachusetts and their apprentices must have reciprocal ID cards.
  • Open shop:
    • A letter of good standing from the cooperating state’s Division of Apprentice Standards
    • The number of journeymen currently employed and copies of the apprentice agreements for each apprentice who will be working in Massachusetts.
    • The company (sponsor) must also have reciprocity with Massachusetts and their apprentices must have reciprocal ID cards
  • Both union and open Shop:
    • Reciprocity must be established in Massachusetts before a sponsor can be verified.
    • The application must be completed and reciprocity must be established before any verifications can be issued.
