Position overview

This internship would be supporting the Sexual and Reproductive Health Program (SRHP) in the Bureau of Community Health and Prevention. SRHP aims to:

  1. Decrease sexual and reproductive health inequities in Massachusetts.  
  2. Decrease the incidence of sexually transmitted conditions in priority populations/communities in Massachusetts (STIs and related conditions, e.g., cervical cancer.)  
  3. Increase the sustainability of the sexual and reproductive health service delivery network in Massachusetts.  

Responsibilities 

 The intern would report to a Sexual and Reproductive Health Program Associate who is working on a health literacy toolkit for the clinics funded by this program. Responsibilities include attending weekly check-in meetings with the supervisor and biweekly team meetings, conducting literature reviews, drafting elements of the toolkit, assessing literacy levels of patient-facing materials, and working with funded clinics to obtain information regarding their client's health literacy needs and levels. Other responsibilities may feature more general support of SRHP including reviewing work plans for funded clinics, creating a listserv for clinical updates, and organizing shared files.  

Skills and qualifications desired   

Skills desired include:

  • Understanding of current sexual and reproductive health landscape nationally and in Massachusetts, including emerging concerns and trends
  • Understanding of reproductive justice framework and how it applies to healthcare
  • Health literacy level analysis such as SMOG, PEMAT, etc, or willingness to learn 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to analyze population-level health data and information  
  • Familiarity with health communications best practices 

Qualifications to apply include:

  • Current MPH student 
  • Experience or interest in sexual and reproductive healthcare 
  • Experience or interest in health communications and health literacy
  • Previous internship or work experience in health marketing/communications, public health, or sexual and reproductive healthcare
