QCML Criteria for Rapid Hardening Cementitious Products for..(M4.04.2)

For Rapid Hardening Cementitious Products for Concrete Repairs (RSCP) to be listed on the Qualified Construction Materials List (QCML), a product must meet the requirements of Subsection M4.04.2 of MassDOT’s Standard Specifications including all Material and Testing Requirements outlined herein. This includes a requirement for a product to be evaluated by AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions.

Submittal and Testing Requirements

A manufacturer requesting approval of Rapid Hardening Cementitious Products for Concrete Repairs shall furnish to MassDOT RMS the following:

  • If required, the material specifications and performance data for their product as specified under the MassDOT Testing Requirements section shown below.
  • All AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions testing requirements for Rapid Hardening Cementitious Products for Concrete Repairs as specified under the AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions Testing Requirements section shown below.
  • For any tests that are not included in the final AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions report, they must meet the requirements as specified under Independent Testing Requirements.

All submittals shall be certified to be in conformance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Rapid Hardening Cementitious Products for Concrete Repairs qualified by MassDOT meeting the performance criteria shall be considered for placement on the MassDOT QCML.
 

AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions Testing Requirements:

The following criteria must be met as part of the product submission.

  • The full report shall be released as "Public".
  • The report shall state which type of product was tested.

MassDOT Testing Requirements: 

Manufacturers may request MassDOT evaluation once the AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions Testing cycle is complete. The following criteria must be met as part of the product submission: 

  • The manufacturer must certify that the product is in accordance with M4.04.2.
  • Product is to not be used for full depth repairs
  • Products on the list are approved as neat (bag product) only.

Extended mixes: Contact Research & Materials for requirements associated with extended mixes.

Independent Testing Requirements:

The following submittal requirements are for testing that was not found on AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions final report only.

All submitted independent test results shall meet the following requirements:

  • The Certified independent test reports submitted must demonstrate conformance to M4.04.2.
  • The Independent Lab must be recognized by the National Cooperation for Laboratory Accreditation (NACLA) in Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CMET) or an equal program approved by MassDOT RMS.
  • All testing shall be performed by one Independent Lab unless approved by the Engineer.
  • Independent test reports must be dated within 2 years from the submitted report.
  • Samples for all required testing shall be fabricated at the same time. Test reports shall denote the lot of material as well as the sample fabrication and testing dates.

QCML Listing, Expiration, and Re-Qualification

Once qualified, the Rapid Hardening Cementitious Products for Concrete Repairs will be listed on the MassDOT QCML. The product shall remain on the qualified list for five (5) years unless one of the following occurs:

  • If the manufacturer does not have the product reevaluated by AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions in accordance with the AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions RHCP workplan.
  • If the product’s technology changes.
    • If the product formulation or technology changes, the manufacturer shall notify MassDOT RMS.
    • Manufacturers must resubmit products to AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions for testing upon any reformulation of the product.
    • The manufacturer will be required to submit certified test reports demonstrating conformance to the specification.
  • MassDOT RMS determines that the product no longer meets the minimum requirements.

A written request for re-qualification must be submitted to the Department at least 60 days prior to the expiration date to remain on the QCML.
