Notice of Project Change

MassDOT filed a Notice of Project Change (NPC) with the MEPA Office on August 1, 2022. The purpose of the NPC is to update the status of the Project in the state environmental review process to align with the advancements made to the Project since publication of the 2017 Draft EIR. The NPC provides a preliminary analysis of environmental effects associated with the Throat Area options. It also responds to the Secretary's Certificate and public comments received on the 2017 Draft EIR.

Bridge Preservation Project

MassDOT is currently advancing a separate Bridge Preservation project to address elements of the I-90 viaduct that require immediate attention to keep the structure operational and avoid load restrictions. The project includes only the repairs needed to extend the service life of the viaduct until it can be replaced.

Next steps

MassDOT intends to follow-up the NPC with a joint MEPA Supplemental Draft EIR and NEPA Draft EIS. We expect the environmental permitting process to continue into 2024.
