Register to vote at the Department of Transitional Assistance

You can register to vote or update your voter registration information at the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) at any time.

You can register to vote by filling out a voter registration form in the office or online.

Qualifications

To register to vote in Massachusetts you must be all of the following:

  • A U.S. Citizen

  • A Massachusetts resident

  • At least 18 years old on or before the next election

You can pre-register to vote at 16 years of age.

Voter registration deadlines

As the result of the VOTES Act in June 2022, the voter registration deadline for all elections and town meetings (including special town meetings) is 10 days before.

Political parties and designations

When you register to vote, you may select a political party or designation. For the most up to date list, visit the directory or parties and designations at the Elections Division.

You should receive confirmation of your voter status within 2 to 3 weeks of your registration. If you have not received confirmation please contact your local election office.
