Safe Spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth

A community-focused program that provides a readily accessible community, with benefits that unite around three aspects — fulfilling the needs of the members, providing a sense of membership, and that are peer-led, and adult-supported.

The drop-in space is a critical element for the program to offer emotional/social support, promote social connectedness, model pro-social behaviors and positive relationships, and addressing risk factors and protective factors in a way that increases resilience among LGBTQ+ youth. Through support groups that offer a space to be with other youth who identify in similar ways, or to receive inclusive and affirming sexual health and general health education, or to participate in civic engagement activities, the Drop-In Space offers many opportunities for members of the community to come together and be themselves, experience a sense of belonging, and create positive relationships with adults in their community.

The general scope of services:

  • Drop-In center space
  • Culturally responsive suicidal behavior prevention, education, and intervention services
  • Onsite behavioral health support
  • Case management
  • Services for transition-age LGBTQIA+ youth
