Seymour Pond

Seymour Pond is located in Brewster, MA. Get a depth map of the lake, along with information about fishing access and the fish population.

Description

Seymour Pond, also known as Bangs Pond, is a 185-acre natural kettlehole and great pond located just west of Route 124 in Harwich and Brewster. Seymour Pond has an average depth of 20 feet, a maximum depth of 38 feet, and water transparency ranging between 5 and 15 feet depending upon conditions. The bottom is composed of sand and rubble, and aquatic vegetation is scarce. The pond’s 2.1 miles of shoreline are low and lightly wooded; development is limited to a few houses, cranberry bogs, and a town beach. The pond is fed by groundwater and drains into Hinkley's Pond.

Recreational access

The Town of Harwich manages a town beach where cartop boats can be carried in and launched off of Rt. 124 on the eastern shore (get directions). A town issue sticker is required to park during the summer months. Shore fishing access is provided along the Cape Cod Rail Trail which extends from the beach south. The pond bottom is firm and perfect for wading. Please contact town of Harwich or Brewster for additional information, fee structure, and/or restrictions pertaining to public access of Seymour Pond.

  • brown bullhead
  • white sucker
  • banded killifish

Fishing

Seymour Pond supports abundant populations of perch and smallmouth bass with many fish exhibiting above average size. A seasonal influx of sea-run alewife via the Herring River and Hinkley’s Pond provide abundant forage which contribute to above average growth. Anglers will find success during summer by casting lures that imitate young-of-the-year alewife. Try wading as the firm bottom makes it easy to cover lots of ground. Seymour Pond has produced largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and white perch that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
