Description
Stuart Pond is a 40-acre impoundment of Bartlett Pond Brook located off of Justice Hill Cutoff Road in Sterling. The western shore is mostly comprised of conserved lands and undeveloped while the eastern shore is populated sparsely with residences. Stuart pond is shallow and weedy throughout with the northern portions resembling more of a wetland than a pond during summer. If you are planning to visit this pond it will be easier navigating earlier in the season.
Recreational access
Access to Stuart Pond is provided by a small gravel pull-off of Justice Hill Cutoff Road within the road right-of-way which can fit about 3 cars (get directions). An unimproved dirt launch is located right by the road and is suitable for cartop boats. Shore fishing is possible by the launch but the water is quite shallow there.
Fish populations
The following fish species were found during MassWildlife surveys:
- largemouth bass
- chain pickerel
- yellow perch
- bluegill
- pumpkinseed
- red breasted sunfish
- yellow bullhead
- brown bullhead
- white sucker
- golden shiner
Fishing
Stuart Pond is shallow throughout and can become thick with vegetation as the summer progresses. For easier fishing opportunities visit earlier in the season rather than later. Stuart Pond has produced largemouth bass, yellow perch and sunfish that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Sportfishing Awards Program.
