Summer 2026 Supreme Judicial Court Judicial Internship Opportunity - SJC Clerk's Office for Suffolk County

The mission of the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) is to promote the rule of law and foster public trust by leading an independent judiciary that assures every person equal access to the fair, timely, and impartial resolution of disputes in courts managed with efficiency and professionalism.

The SJC is the highest appellate court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is comprised of a Chief Justice and six Associate Justices. The Clerk’s Office for Suffolk County, one of two clerk’s offices at the SJC, is primarily responsible for the single justice caseload of the court, administrative and disciplinary matters affecting members of the bar, and matters relating to Bar Admission and the practice of law in the Commonwealth. The Clerk for Suffolk County is an elected official.

The Clerk’s Office for Suffolk County is offering a paid summer law student internship. The internship offers an invaluable learning experience for law students, with exposure to all facets of the work of the office.

At minimum, applicants are required to have completed one year, or preferably two years, of law school coursework to be eligible to apply for an internship. Applicants should demonstrate strong academic achievement, an interest in legal research and writing, the ability to actively engage with the public, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Interns are expected to be available to work 20-35 hours per week. The pay for this position is $25.00 per hour.

The application period for a Summer 2026 internship will open on April 6, 2026, and close at 5:00 pm on May 1, 2026. The internship period may run from late-May/early June through August (exact dates will be negotiated at the time of hire).

  4. A brief writing sample (5-8 pages)
