Surplus Lines Broker – Individual & Corporate
Surplus Lines Brokers place insurance coverage with eligible non-admitted insurers when coverage is not available through the standard insurance market. All new and renewal applications must be submitted through NIPR. Paper applications are not accepted.
Licensing Requirements
Individual Applicants
You may apply if you:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Hold an active Massachusetts Producer License with Property and Casualty authority, or hold an active Surplus Lines Broker License in your home state
- Have not had an insurance license revoked or suspended
Business Entity Applicants
Business entities may apply if:
- At least one affiliated member holds an active Massachusetts Surplus Lines Broker License
- Resident applicants maintain a Massachusetts Property and Casualty Producer License
Annual Filing Requirements
Licensed Surplus Lines Brokers must file annual surplus lines tax reports and payments by January 31 for premium written during the previous calendar year.
