The Ralph Gants Project

The Ralph Gants Project is a program within the Community Justice Support Center that provides brief intervention and resource navigation to those that are on probation or returning to the community after a period of incarceration.

Chief Justice Gants was a champion of criminal justice reform who leveraged research and science to inform decision making around incarceration and racial justice. The RG Project serves his vision by connecting people that are justice involved with services, resources, and programs that lead to success.

Who is eligible?

Any person that has been formerly incarcerated or is currently on probation.

What does Ralph Gants Project provide?

  1. A backpack and care package. Receive a backpack with necessities like personal hygiene products, socks, hats, gloves, etc.;
  2. Transportation certificate. Receive a certificate for up to $50 worth of transportation;
  3. Community resource navigation. Consult with a Reentry Services Coordinator to map out your goals around housing, employment, family, etc. Reentry Services Coordinators help you connect with resources in your community; and
  4. Public benefits coordination. Get MassHealth, State ID, SNAP, Social Security…work with a Public Benefits Coordinator to make applications to benefits that you are eligible for. 

Where are the Support Centers?

There are 18 Community Justice Support Centers in Massachusetts. You can find locations on Mass.gov.

How long does it take?

Initial intakes at the Support Center may require a visit of an hour or more. Once an intake is conducted staff can schedule appointments to meet to work on goals you would like to achieve. You can visit the Support Center to get help for whatever it is you need, and you can come as often or as little as you like. 

What does it cost?

Visiting the Support Center is completely free. 

Will my Probation Officer know if I don’t show up?

Participation in the Ralph Gants Project is completely voluntary. The law does not allow your participation in the Ralph Gants Project to be used against you regarding your probation or parole supervision.
