Status
General construction activities are underway at the Westford and Gorham Street bridges. A temporary traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Carlisle Street, Boston Road and Manning Road to facilitate the Gorham Street detour.
Typical work hours are weekdays from 7 AM to 3 PM and require occasional lane closures.
Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change without notice, but we will do our best to keep you updated.
Overnight activities on I-495 at the Westford Street Bridge
Beginning the evening of Sunday, September 27 through Wednesday, October 28, 2026, overnight lane closures will be required on I-495 northbound and southbound underneath the Westford Street bridge to facilitate the installation of new bridge beams.
Steel bridge beam installation work will be sequenced, starting with I-495 lane closures occurring on the northbound side, followed by work on the southbound side. Lane closures will occur on the side corresponding with active work.
In addition to the overnight lane closures, occasional rolling roadblocks on I-495 northbound and southbound will be necessary, which will briefly close all lanes for northbound and southbound traffic. The roadblocks will be implemented intermittently for 10 to 15-minute periods several times throughout each work night.
Overnight lane closures will be in place from 9 PM to 5 AM with rolling roadblocks permitted from the hours of 12 AM to 3 AM nightly at Westford Street on I-495 northbound and southbound. This work will begin on the evening of Sunday, September 27, 2026, and continue through Wednesday morning, October 28, 2026.
