Status
General construction activities are underway near and on the Westford and Gorham Street bridges. A temporary traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Carlisle Street, Boston Road and Manning Road to facilitate the Gorham Street detour.
Typical work hours are weekdays from 7 AM to 3 PM and require occasional lane closures.

Westford Street Bridge Demolition Work Begins December 1
Following implementation of the Phase I Bridge closure at Westford Street and completion of early action work, the contractor will close pedestrian access across the bridge and demolish the entire existing span in one combined phase. This single stage demolition and subsequent single stage construction will reduce the long-term impacts to the community and improve the constructability of the new bridge.
Demolition operations on the Westford Street Bridge has begun. Demolition of the bridge deck will be completed over approximately 10 overnight shifts. Typical work hours will be from 8 PM nightly through 5 AM the following morning. Work shifts occur Sunday - Thursday. During work hours, lane closures underneath the bridge on I-495 north and south will be necessary. Work hours are subject to change without notice.
Bridge deck demolition work will have noise impacts and may be disruptive, mainly between the hours of 9 PM to 2 AM. Noise monitoring stations have been installed to monitor noise levels throughout this work. The project team will follow the approved noise and dust control plans to minimize impacts to neighbors
Westford Street Bridge traffic impacts
- Overnight lane closures on I-495 Northbound and Southbound during work hours from 8 PM nightly to 5 AM the following morning Sunday-Thursday. These impacts will begin on December 1 and last approximately four weeks until all demolition activities are complete.
