What's new? 

• The contractor is scheduled to reconstruct the sidewalks on Sumner Avenue between Churchill Street and Continental Street this summer.
  • Sidewalk reconstruction will continue north on Sumner Avenue from Main Greeting Road along Forest Park towards the X intersection. 
  • Sidewalk work on the opposite side of Forest Park is expected to start in late July.
• Eversource Electric will start utility work on Sumner Avenue between Lenox Street and Ormond Street on the Belmont Avenue side.
• Activities will include concrete removal, grading, excavation, utility work, material deliveries, exporting material, staging construction equipment, and concrete placements.
• Temporary pedestrian detours and signage will be installed, and property access will be maintained on Sumner Avenue.

When is this work happening? 

• Utility work is anticipated to start as early as Monday, July 20, 2026, and continue through August 2026.
• Sidewalk work is anticipated to continue intermittently through August 2026.
• Work is scheduled on weekdays, Monday through Friday, with daytime hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and intermittent overnight work from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. as required.

What to expect? 

• Temporary pedestrian detours and signage will be installed on Sumner Avenue. Local access for residents, businesses, and emergency services will be maintained.
• Intermittent daytime lane closures along Sumner Avenue are anticipated on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to support the proposed utility work and the new sidewalk. 
• On-street parking restrictions may be required during work hours due to site safety and staging of equipment.
• Police details and appropriate signage will be deployed to assist traffic flow around the work zones.
