What is happening?
- The contractor is scheduled to continue water pipe replacement work on Belmont Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue as part of the Springfield 'X' Intersection Reconstruction project.
- Activities will include asphalt removal, excavation, trenching, water pipe installation, material deliveries, exporting material, staging of construction equipment, and asphalt restoration.

Why is this work happening?
- This work is being performed in advance of roadway construction on Sumner Avenue, Dickinson Street, and Belmont Avenue.
When is this work happening?
- This work is anticipated to start on Monday, August 4, 2025, and continue through the fall of 2025.
- Work is scheduled on weekdays, Monday – Friday, from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Water pipe work in other areas of the project limits will be scheduled at later dates.
Where is this work happening?
- This work is anticipated to take place on:
- Belmont Avenue between Sumner Avenue and Ormond Street.
- Belmont Avenue at the Sumner Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, and Ormond Street intersections.
- Commonwealth Avenue between Belmont Avenue and Walden Street.
What to expect?
- Water service interruptions for individual properties are expected on Belmont Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. Notifications for specific properties, dates, and times will be provided in coordination with the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission. - These operations will require intermittent weekday lane closures on Belmont Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue during work hours, as needed. Local access for residents, businesses, and emergency services will be maintained.
- On-street parking restrictions are expected during work hours due to site safety and staging of equipment.
- Police details and appropriate signage will be deployed to assist traffic flow around the work zones.
