Eversource utility-scale storage demonstration projects
In 2017, the DPU approved 2 utility-scale battery storage demonstration projects for Eversource as part of its most recent base distribution rate case (Section X.C of D.P.U. 17-05). These 2 projects are both located in the Cape Cod area and focus on deferring T&D, improving reliability, reducing fossil fuel use and other use cases.
- Outer Cape: 25 megawatt (MW)/38 megawatt hour (MWh)
- Martha’s Vineyard: 5 MW/20MWh
Eversource recovers the costs of this program through its grid modernization factor. Eversource must report on the progress of its battery storage demonstration projects as part of its Grid Modernization Annual Reports.
In July 2020, the DPU approved the performance metrics for Eversource’s storage projects.
