Vaccine Confidence Campaign for Haitian Residents in MA

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Division of Community Engagement has partnered with local community leaders to launch a vaccine confidence campaign for the Haitian community in and around Brockton.

The mass.gov/Vaksen campaign was created because we heard directly from Haitian residents, families, and community organizations that you want more information about vaccines, in your own language and in ways that reflect your culture and values.

What we heard

  • Trusted voices matter: Many community members told us they rely on family, friends, and local leaders for guidance on health decisions
  • Questions about safety: Some people want to know more about how vaccines work and the side effects
  • Clear and direct messaging: Community members asked for simple, straightforward information that addresses common concerns without medical jargon

How we are responding

  • Community-led approach: this campaign was shaped with input from Haitian community leaders, health providers, and residents in Brockton
  • Information in Haitian Creole: materials are available in Haitian Creole and English, so families can learn in the language they are most comfortable with

Our goal

We want to make sure everyone in the Haitian community has the facts they need to make informed choices about vaccines. We aim to support families in protecting their health and the health of the whole community.

Looking ahead

The insights learned from this campaign will guide DPH in how to better listen, collaborate, and partner with communities across Massachusetts in the future. By working directly with residents, we can create public health campaigns that reflect each community’s priorities, values, and voices.
